Questions To Ask Before Renting A Freezer Trailer
Posted on: 10 October 2022
Freezer trailers are expensive. So, if you need one to transport a large amount of food or other frozen items from Point A to Point B, your best bet is likely to rent one instead of buying one yourself. Most companies that rent large vehicles and construction equipment will either rent freezer trailers, or they can point you toward someone who does. Just make sure you ask the following questions prior to renting such a trailer so you know what you'll be getting.
Will the truck be down to temperature when you pick it up?
Freezer trucks can take a while to get down to temperature. You don't want to pick the truck up assuming it will already be cool, only to find out it needs half a day to chill before you can safely put your frozen food in it. Most companies will make sure a frozen truck is down to temp before they give it to you, but some don't, so it's worth asking. If the truck will need time to cool before you load it, you will at least know in advance so you can plan this into your schedule.
Will the truck come with loading equipment?
How do you plan on getting all of the items into the freezer truck? The easiest way is usually with a dolly. A 4-wheeled one that can hold lots of boxes at once is usually your best choice. Some rental companies put a dolly in each truck, and some trucks even have a compartment where the dolly is stored. Ask about this so you know whether or not you need to buy a dolly before your drive.
What is the truck's height?
Knowing the truck's height in advance will allow you to plan your route. If the truck is over a standard height, you will need to avoid routes that include low bridges and other similar obstructions.
Is the truck diesel or gasoline?
Most larger freezer trucks run diesel, but there are freezer trucks that run gasoline. Ask this beforehand so you know whether you'll need to look specifically for gas stations with diesel along your route. Some smaller and more rural gas stations don't offer it.
Once you have the answers to the questions above, you should be better prepared to rent a freezer truck. If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask the rental company.
