Protecting Your Favorite Luxury Bath Towels

Posted on: 27 May 2018

Finding the perfect towel to wrap around yourself as you step out of the shower or bath can be hard. When you find the luxury bath towels that give you that good feeling each time you use them, you want to do everything that you can to protect them and keep them in good shape.

Invest in Good Detergent

Believe it or not, there is specially formulated laundry detergent that you can purchase to use to wash your luxury bath towels. This formula is used to clean bath towels, rugs, robes and mats without adding any extra softener. It protects the fibers from drying out, becoming discolored or fading. Using this type of detergent will keep your favorite towels soft, absorbent and strong. If you were to use fabric softener, the agents that soften the fabric will actually coat the tiny yarns and prevent them from being as absorbent as they should be.

Wash the Towels Often

Don't let your towels sit on the floor all wet. Hang them back up as soon as you're done using them, but don't fold them over the bar. You want the towel to dry as quickly as possible to prevent mold, mildew and bacteria growth. Wait until the towels are completely dry before putting them in your laundry hamper.

Don't overheat the towels – dry them slowly on a medium or low setting. High heat will damage the fibers and shrink embellishments.

Store the Towels Separately

If you have kids in the house, don't store your best luxury bath towels in the same linen closet as the towels that you want your kids to use. Keeping everything all in one closet will result in the kids taking the towels that you love and using them to do the odd things that kids tend to do with towels – making capes, cleaning up the mud that they've tracked in, or giving the dog a bath after a day of rolling in the muck. The less access the kids have to the towels, the longer they will remain in the best condition.

Trim the Snags

You don't have to worry about your towels unraveling if you cut the snagged threads off. When you notice a snag, simply get your scissors and trim it off carefully.

Taking care of your luxury bath towels properly will protect them from damage and keep them feeling and looking as good as they did the day you first brought them home.
